Getting Started with Ranklance
Ranklance is a WordPress plugin for SEO and Answer Engine Optimization (AEO) that scores every page for AI answer engines. It installs like any plugin and needs WordPress 6.8 or later and PHP 8.2 or later. Setup takes about five minutes: install, run the welcome wizard, connect Google Search Console, then run your first audit.
1. Install and activate
- In your WordPress admin, go to Plugins → Add New and search for Ranklance.
- Click Install Now, then Activate.
- A Ranklance menu appears in the admin sidebar.
You can also download the zip from WordPress.org and upload it under Plugins → Add New → Upload Plugin.
2. Run the welcome wizard
The Welcome to Ranklance wizard asks three things:
- About your site: blog, e-commerce, business or agency. This tailors the recommendations.
- Site identity: your brand name, whether the site represents an organisation or a person, and your logo URL. These feed your Organization or Person schema.
- Connect your data: Google Search Console credentials. You can skip this and do it later.
3. Connect Google Search Console
Ranklance uses your own Google Cloud credentials. Follow Connect Google Search Console.
4. Run your first audit
- Go to Ranklance → Audit and click Run Audit.
- The crawler scans your pages. You can leave the page and come back; use Resume if a crawl was interrupted.
- Click Run Site Checks for site-wide checks: crawl errors, Core Web Vitals, index coverage, redirect chains, duplicate meta and sitemap consistency.
Findings appear as a list ranked by impact. In the free edition they are recommendations you apply yourself.
5. Check your AEO score
Open any post in the block editor. The Ranklance sidebar shows its AEO score out of 100 across eight dimensions. What each dimension checks.
